Why inside

The collector lives where you work.

Putting the unit inside the production envelope changes what you should demand from it. Filtered air goes back into a space your team is breathing, so filtration grade becomes an air quality decision. The fan sits in the room, so noise is an operator issue. And the dust, the most combustible material in a wood plant, is stored under the same roof as the machines.

In return you keep the heat, the collector stays out of the weather, and filter changes happen in a lit, dry building rather than on a wet pad in January.

Four things that decide if you like it.

Every indoor installation we get called back to has a problem in one of these four areas. None appear on a specification sheet.

Air

Return air and heat

Discharging filtered air back into the shop keeps your heating load where it is. It also means the discharge has to point somewhere sensible, because a return stream aimed across a finishing bench causes more trouble than the dust did.

Noise at the operator

The fan is now in the room. Position, mounting and duct routing all change what the operator hears, and a unit that is acoustically wrong gets switched off, which is the worst outcome available.

Fit

Access and headroom

Bag and sleeve units need clearance above them to lift media out. Cartridge units need clear access on the service face. Plan the service side first, or filter changes become a two person job with a forklift.

Dust

Housekeeping and fire

Collected wood dust indoors is a fuel store. Emptying on schedule, keeping the discharge sealed and not letting fines settle on beams matters more than any feature on the unit.

Be honest about it

When indoor is the wrong answer.

Better said at quotation than after commissioning. Four situations put the unit outside the building.

  • The discharge fills faster than anyone empties it. A collection bag needing changing more than once a shift means the waste stream has outgrown indoor collection, and bulk discharge needs space you probably do not have inside.
  • Floor space is worth more than the heat. Where every square foot is production, the return air argument loses and moving the collector out beats extending the building.
  • The dust load has outgrown the risk you want indoors. Past a certain quantity, most operations prefer the collected dust on the far side of a wall with relief pointed at open ground.
  • Extraction crosses the site, not a room. Once a system serves several buildings, one central outdoor collector gives a far simpler duct layout than routing a main through occupied space.

What is an indoor dust collector used for?

It captures sawdust, chip and fine dust from woodworking machines and filters it inside the production building rather than exhausting the air outside. One unit can serve a single machine or a group of machines on a shared main.

Does an indoor dust collector return air to the shop?

Yes, and that is the main reason to site a collector indoors. Heat you have already paid for stays in the plant instead of leaving through the roof. Because that air is being breathed by your team, filtration grade matters more indoors than outdoors.

How much floor space does an indoor dust collector need?

More than the footprint of the machine itself. You need clear access on the service side for filter changes, room to swap collection bags, and headroom above bag and sleeve models. Exact dimensions are available on request.

Can an indoor dust collector be moved later?

The Clen Portable Bag unit is built to be moved and runs without fixed ductwork. Fixed units can be relocated, but the ducting has to be reworked and the system rebalanced, so position the collector around the layout you expect rather than the one you have.

Which indoor dust collector suits a cabinet shop?
