A beam saw takes a stack of MDF, particleboard, plywood or melamine-faced panels down to size before those parts move on to banding or drilling elsewhere in the plant. A scoring blade runs ahead of the main blade so both faces come off clean in a single pass, and a sizing center may add trimming immediately after the cut.
The panels themselves are the reason this process gets its own page. MDF and particleboard are held together with a resin binder, and cutting them releases dust that carries the binder along with the wood fiber. Bonded particulate like that does not behave like solid wood fines, and it is the specific thing the extraction has to be engineered around rather than a smaller version of ordinary sawdust.
A beam saw's scoring blade and main blade cut resin-bonded panel material at the same point, concentrating fine, resin-carrying dust at the kerf rather than spreading it across a shop floor the way a mixed-machine operation would.

Respirable wood dust is a recognized occupational hazard category in general terms, and resin-bonded panel fines sit at the finer end of what a wood shop handles. The practical consequence is that this dust moves. It drifts further from the machine than coarse sawdust and settles more stubbornly once it lands, which is why capture at the kerf does more for the room than general ventilation ever will.
It also collects where nobody is looking. Fine dust accumulates inside the saw's own blade compartment and needs clearing on a schedule of its own, because it packs in there differently than it settles on open floor.
Filtration grade is the other half of the answer. Bag media sized for ordinary sawdust is not matched to this particle size, and choosing on airflow alone is how a panel line ends up with a collector that moves plenty of air and still leaves a haze hanging in the building at the end of a shift.
